“We planned a self-drive overlanding trip through Botswana in October, which we ultimately executed in January, and finding African Passion Travels — and Naledi in particular — was one of the best decisions we made for the entire journey. African Passion Travels is a small, boutique, local travel agency in Botswana, and from the very beginning, Naledi was an absolute pleasure to work with. As a local Motswana, she has deep personal ties across the country — including relationships with people at park gates, camps, lodges, and key locations we traveled through — and that local grounding made a real, tangible difference throughout our trip. Our plans changed frequently as we worked through logistics — 2 kids, 6 adults, three 4x4 vehicles rented through Avis Safari, shifting group dynamics, budget considerations, and route complexity — and throughout all of it, Naledi was flexible, patient, thoughtful, and incredibly responsive. What truly stood out was the intelligence and care behind the planning. Our trip involved landing in Johannesburg, driving through Botswana, and looping back — and the way the route was structured showed deep local knowledge and experience. The pacing and progression were perfect: • First night in a lodge to land and recover • Second night in a safe, fenced campsite to learn our vehicles and camp setup • Then easing into truly remote Kalahari wilderness camping This gradual acclimation was brilliant. It allowed both the adults and kids to adapt safely and confidently before going fully remote — and it made the experience feel adventurous, not overwhelming. From there, Naledi set us up beautifully — including a base camp at Sitatunga Camp to decompress after days deep in the Kalahari bushveld, followed by a stunning route through Moremi, Khwai, Savuti, and into Chobe. The flow, logistics, and pacing were exceptional. What we didn’t expect — and what made the experience truly special — was how hands-on and caring Naledi was throughout the trip. She checked in with us daily via WhatsApp, followed our progress through the gates, made sure we knew our routes, and was always available if we needed anything. It genuinely felt like having a guardian angel overseeing our journey — a rare and deeply comforting feeling when traveling remotely with kids in wild terrain. One of the most meaningful moments of the entire trip was when Naledi, her partner Fortune, and their two kids came to visit us at Sitatunga Camp. We shared a beautiful evening together, and they even brought us Chibuku shake-shake — a local delicacy — which was such a thoughtful, personal touch that we will never forget. Naledi is not only a planner — she’s also a guide, which makes her advice, recommendations, and risk awareness incredibly valuable. She understands the land, the conditions, the routes, the realities of self-driving in Botswana, and the human side of travel.
